Police arrest man on suspicion of assaulting Mariya Didi

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting Maldivian Democratic Party MP Mariya Ahmed Didi, a year after the alleged assault took place.

Police Spokesperson Chief Inspector Hassan Haneef told local media that the man was arrested on 4 March 2013 in relation to the assault that took place on 7 February 2012.

According to local media, police have been investigating the videos of the unrest that followed the controversial change of power in February 2012.

The police have been criticised by various institutions for a failure to investigate several incidents that took place on February 7 and 8, 2012.

  1. Maria was the person who brought the thugs and started the fight at republican square at the request of Nasheed.

Why did Maria been questioned and summoned to the court ?

  2. hakeem did you see the videos or did you just dream this bit up. Go back and check the videos available on youtube of that day. Maria and her companions were unarmed when they were attacked and the clear video of her being hit later shows that she was walking away when some stupid a..hole tried to land a punch.

You can disagree with her views or what she stands for, but she as a Maldivian has every right to walk on the streets of Male or anywhere in the country for that matter without being hit by brainless blokes.

  3. Yes she has the right like any other Maldivian. But she does not have the right to attack the others also?

Look at the videos of and audios leaked and listen what Nasheed had ordered and what she had tried to implement.

You think that only Rajje TV and Nasheed and Maria has videos and people only can see what these guys show.

Maria is the lady who brought the thugs there and attacked the police and other people first and this was done to create a havoc there .

    Good job!

People who worked so hard to bring a suspect into custody should get double promotion and a flat at Hulhumale!

    Bravo!
