Policeman arrested for blackmailing woman with nude photograph

A policeman has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing a woman on Kulhudhufushi in Haa Dhaal Atoll by putting her photograph on a pornographic image.

Haveeru reported that the man was in custody.

“We’re investigating the matter now. The man is from the island and the woman also lives in the island. It is of extreme disappointment that such an act was carried out by a policeman and we’re taking the matter very seriously,” a police spokesperson told Haveeru.

Haveeru spoke to the victim’s husband, who said the police officer had been blackmailing her for several days and that it “a lot of hard work” for her to escape by reporting the matter to police.

  2. “a lot of hard work” seems to be a literal translation from Dhivehi to English, if so, does not portray the correct meaning.

    In this instance it portrays the victim in bad light, when she probably meant to say, "it was hard for her".

    This may seem trivial but I hope Minivan considers this and educates staff involved in translation.

    how does the 1st sentence make it look like she was bad.The 1 st sentence does suggest that she might ve faced issues reporting the case.Frankly, i do nt see the difference between the 2 sentences.

    Its a pity she did not like him, otherwise she would have been pursuing him, and probably, aborted the resulting-child as well.
