Manager of Habib Bank stabbed and robbed

The country manager of Habib Bank was stabbed and robbed in his home yesterday evening by a gang of four masked men.

Mohamed Anjul Jameel suffered injuries to his nose, forehead and right arm but was not seriously hurt, said Police Sergeant Abdul Muhsin.

Jameel was taken to ADK Hospital for treatment following the attack, which occurred around 5:30pm yesterday.

The bank’s Manager for Foreign Exchange Saudhulla Saeed told Minivan News the incident occurred inside Jameel’s house.

”When he went home after work a group of four young men were in front of his apartment covering their faces,” Saeed said. ”[Jameel] did not notice that these guys were there.”

Saeed said as the man opened his apartment the men came up from behind and pushed him inside his room.

”They covered his mouth and started beating him,” Saeed said, ”and then he told the group to take whatever they liked.”

He said the group only took the money from inside Jameel’s wallet.

”They packed a laptop, five watches and some cosmetics but they forgot to take it with them,” he said.

He said Jameel’s face was badly beaten in the attack.  He was discharged from ADK Hospital this afternoon.

Saeed noted that Jameel’s five year contract was coming to an end and he would be leaving the country very soon.

  1. Welcome to New Maldives, MDP govt told at their meeting prior to power that they will make male' a safe place by putting police on duty at each coner in Male' roads, the police have that much force. why now the govt is failing? is this the safe male' you guys told. everyday this is happening. now we should bring stab proof jackets and cloths. or carry a knife.every one has the right for protection if police fails to do.

  2. this done by people who want to start personal protection and security service business, by this way they market the need for such services and thus profit from it, already buinsesmen are starting to use thugs as personal bodyguards..i believe this should be regulated by the police as well as investigate possible links with the personal security providers and these criminals

  4. Its a sad state of affairs in this country. If Anni wanted to stamp out these violent crimes he could do so.It very well within his power and yet he fails to anything about it just like Maumoon. The root cause of these incidents are directly linked to the continually failing education system and lack of job opportunity for the youth.

  5. All these things are happening broad daylight, none of the authorities, let alone condemn these heinous crimes. When President Nshaeed was a street activist, he would be the first person to condemn these things. But when he is a commander in chief he has no guts to face the reality and duck out himself, similarly as home minister. I feel shame myself to identify as a Maldivian now, where on earth there is more dangerous place than Male' just one kilometer square, rape, murder, robbery you name it are sky rocketing. But no one to take responsibility to prevent any of these.

  8. Don't blame MPD for these attacks. DRP controlls judicial and are still stuffed with judges handpicked by Maumoon. Until they start convicting the criminals, no amount of police is going to be able to guard against criminals who KNOW they will never be found guilty in the court of law.

  9. We are basically a very hypocritical sosciety. When it came to the alcohol regulations, protests were organized because alcohol consumption is against the religion of Islam, but when one of the biggest drug lords was "proved" to be innocent and when people are beaten, stabbed and robbed at practically every corner, and when women are raped and when children are abused, we just wait for things to get better. Unfortunately not one poltical person or MP has had the guts to put pressure on the Government to actually tacke these issues, instead of doing surveys and making reports. The Human Rights Commission might as well not exist. Its existence means nothing but a waste of our resources! And all the MPs should be forced to resign! We didn't select them to put on a party politics show on TV! And as for the rest of us in society, shame on us for not having the guts to stand up and say Enough is Enough!!! Afterall, its only drinking alcohol that's against the religion it seems.

  10. Anni is powerless and has no guts to do anything. Adhaalath and Salafis are controlling Maldives and they don't care about anything other than Buruga, alcohol and beard. So this is the end of Maldives, lets find a better place to move and give Maldives to Thalibans.

  11. I pity all of u people who make each and everything a political issue...come on why do we have to drag MDP, DRP, and Adhaalath each time some shocking news hit us...as citizens of Maldives we all have our own individual social responsibilities...instead of fighting over who is to blame, let us focus on how to find a solution to these problems...

I find this a bit too dramatic (4 men wearing masks attacking a bank manager and then forgetting to take the laptop, 5 watches etc they meant to take)like its some sort of a play or something..well my suggestion is guys u got to stop watching too many crime and gangster movies...coz when u get inspired by such movies and try to pull out a stunt like that it becomes utter comedy..

  14. It is true that no matter which opposition party won the election, all of them would have a hard time getting any criminals convicted since majority of the judges that still remains in their posts were selected by Gayyoom during the days of corruption, bribary and intimidation. No political party is to be held responsible because no President can just come into power and kick all the judges out. Unless you have Gayyoom or one of his family members back in power again ofcourse.

The fingers should be pointed at the JUDGES and questions should be constantly directed at the judges. Who ever they are.. so that just as political leaders are kept pressured to do their jobs properly, the judges should be pressured to the extend they know that every ordinary person is looking at each one of their court rulings and statements very carefully.. looking for any corruption or anything weird and not right.

None of us wants a criminal that hurts any of our family member or friend to be taken to court and released just because the Judge feels that today is not the day to convict the guy, etc. If they are scared, quit their positions and let someone else take over. Or be truthful and ask the police for protection, etc. Currently, they seem to be only good in giving excuses in favour for the accused and not protecting the victim.
