The arrival of a Canadian man in the Maldives claiming to be a messenger of Allah was “a false alarm”, said Police Sub-Inspector Ahmed Shiyam.
”According to information we have received we have been unable to confirm that it is true,” Shiyam said.
Press Secretary for the President Mohamed Zuhair said the President’s Office was also informed of the man’s arrival.
”The Islamic Ministry requested police investigate the matter,” he said earlier today.
Local media reported that Hussein Iqbal, a Pakistani national who lives in Canada and claims to be a messenger of God, arrived in the Maldives on the invitation of Maldivians who follow him. A group was reportedly scheduled to leave for Sri Lanka on a pilgrimage.
Ibrahim Fauzy, President of local religious NGO the Islamic Foundation of the Maldives (IFM), told Minivan News that there were “hundreds” of Maldivians who followed Iqbal.
”I met last night with some of his followers in Male’,” Fauzy told Minivan News. “I learned that his call first reached the Maldives seven years ago and since then people have been joining him.”
Fauzy said that he also understood that Iqbal preached against the Sunnah and Hadith and encouraged his followers to believe solely in the Quran.
”Their original call comes from a person called Khaleefa Rashad who dismissed the Hadith and Sunnah,” Fauzy said.
He said Iqbal and his followers used verse 30 and 31 of the Surah Mudhassir to support their argument and try to convince others they were right.
”They use a mathematical formula and subtract some numbers from 19, and claim that the Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) was the last Prophet but not last messenger,” he said.
Verse 30 of the Surah Mudhassir reads ”over it are nineteen” and 31 reads ”And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers, in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith, and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, “What symbol doth Allah intend by this ?” Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind.”
Fauzy said that those following Iqbal were only praying three times a day. He also said that one of Iqbal’s followers  had a divorce case pending in the Family Court, contesting that his wife was a disbeliever, “which raises many complicated legal issues.”
Khalifa Rashad was an Egyptian-born, US-educated biochemist who claimed that the Archangel Gabriel had “most assertively” told him that chapter 36, verse 3, of the Quran referred specifically to him. He was stabbed to death in 1990 at an Islamic school in Arizona and his body drenched in xylol, a flammable printing solvent.
Isn't Fauzy the guy who was in Guantanamo Bay? Is the Police investigating the nonsense him and the Islamic Foundation is spreading?
This extremist Fauzy and his gang are just trying to create hysteria in order to grab the media's attention.
The so-called NGO Islamic Foundation is getting cheap publicity after a long lull in the media.
I wish the media will not fall such stunts by these extremists.
Another stunt by extremists! Amusing!
Is it forbidden in their religion for women to touch cucumbers?
Yes very good !!! Today will be all Prophets meeting in psychiatric ward!!!
When all prophets were first claimed, there were men and women, who opposed them.
Until miracles are proven.
Shall we ask him to prove to us his miracles first, before being judgemental?
Fauzy should have been left in Guantanamo Bay. I don't believe he's innocent at all.
All religions are man made and all Prophets are men. So where's the surprise in this?
we are talking about a fake evil man who claims as a prophet not fauzy, i can see some ppl get jealous about Ismic Foundation, get roast but we will not stop our jihad insha Allah,
The new prophet got a boost here since he got a free publicity thanks to Islamic Foundation. His followers will increase. Not a bad thing!
The followers of Maqbool Hussein follows the website www.godprovenas1.com
Methinks this is good. Afrasheem finally has a challenger,
If Dhajal were to appear these days. I think 99% of Maldivians will follow it, simply because they lack knowledge of Allah and ignore the Hadees of Muhammadh (SAW) and are too arrogant to learn the real minor and majors signs that are pending to occur. This could be just one of them. The only prophet who will come back is Isaa Alaihi Salaam (PBUH) and the arrival of Imam Mahdi, descendant of Muhamadh (SAW). Save yourselves from your nafs.
How foolish those Maldivians are who believed in some jerk pretending to be a messenger. I guess the iman of these Maldivians are very low. This should be an alarm for the adhalath party to know how muslims maldivians are.
are't we lucky? previously prophets were only sent to Arab countries because they were the most barbaric. An Egypt educated barbarian made this place worthy of a prophet after all those years.
Naseeb
This is excellent news. Maldives is no longer a 100% Muslim country. The question is who are the Muslims, those who follow Iqbal (PBUH) or Mohamed (PBUH)
Most Islamic Prophets were not of Arab descent; in fact the vast majority including Moses and Jesus were of Jewish descent sent to the Israelites and the Jews. According to the logic of a previosu post those people would have been the most babaric at the time!
fauzy once married a 12 year old. minivan should do a report on THAT.
I always found it amusing that believers of one set of miracles are so quick to assert that believers or another set of miracles are 'crazy' or weak of faith.
That said, the Islamic Foundation really needs to start a 24 hr cable TV to continue to release statements that make them feel relevant/important.
It is true that Rashad Khalifa created a cult of '19ers' or submitters. This was based on his analysis of Quranic texts, which revealed seemingly intricate linkage of quranic verses to number 19.
Infact, he was so obsessed that, he pointed out that some verses in the quran were falsified. He and his followers were outside the fold of islam.
But what fauzy and other 'scholars' will not mention is that Ahmed Deedat (the renowned scholar at Peace TV, and colleague of Dr. Zakir Naik), once wrote a 77 page book titled "AlQuran - The Ultimate Miracle" advocating and in support of the Number 19 miracle discovered by Rashad Khalifa.
At the beginning of the book he says
"... I have in all humility taken liberty of bringing the scientific findings of the great servant of islam - Dr. Rashad Khalifa Phd. in my own humble way"
However, when Rashad claimed phrophethood or when he rejected Hadith, Deedat revoked his endorsement.
So, the question is, what was discovered by Rashad (regarding number 19 and quran), really true? Or was it false? (irrespective of his other beliefs).
A direct pdf link to this Deedat's book is here:

Fyi, Dr. Khaleefa Rashad does not refute the Sunnah. He was the one who discovered the mystical number 19 and its co-relation to the Quran after the book was computerized. The late Ahmed Deedat had written a book titled 'Al-Quran - the ultimate miracle' which gives a comprehensive idea of the way the number 19 is embedded in the verses of the Quran.
I am not an Islamic scholar and shud anyone wishes to know more about the subject they should consult our learned ulemas.
Well, welll Iqbal ... so you think you are prophet. Can i think i am Abu Lahab.
It will take extensive research to deduce the truth. For example the opening verse of every chapter of the Quran 'Bismi Allah...' recurs a 113 times. 'Baraat' sura is the only exception. The missing 'Bismi Allah'... can be found at the head of the letter addressed to Queen Bilqis by Suleiman (PBUH) thus arriving at the figure 114, divisible by 19. Every word of the sentence 'Bismi Allah... when counted individually totals a figure divisible by 19. The Muqqattat letters, like Ya Sin, Alif Laam Meemu, when totalled gives a figure divisible by 19. If one word or sentence were to be omitted or changed the mathematical formula binding the book would fall apart surmises the late Ahmed Deedat based on the findings of Khalifa Rashad. Ahmed Deedat contended that the Quran itself is the 'miracle' sought by unbelievers. Mathematics, an exact science believed by one and all, will provide the proof of authenticity and its author, Allah.
Leave the personality defects of those propagating the subject and look at it as a work of genuine scholarship and perhaps we may see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Same old numerology bullshit. Numerical relations can be derived so easily its not even funny. Let me illustrate.
Lets take the comment

"it will take...."
If we analyse the text of this just one comment alone, we come with the following amazing discoveries related to prime/odd numbers:
a) There are 7 words that have 9 letters, and 16 words that have 7 letters. 1 + 6 = 7, and 9 + 7 = 16. Coincidence?
b) If we count the number of words with 6 (ie one number lower than 7) characters we find there are 9 words. Similarly if we count no. of words with 8 (7+1) characters it is 8 words. Now 8+9 = 17, a prime number.
c) The longest words are 12 characters. There are exactly 3 words of that length. 12 -3 = 9! Also these three words are 'individually', 'mathematically' and 'authenticity'. These three words form the basis of the article, ie an individual establishing authenticity of Quran mathematically. Amazing isnt it?
d) The number of three letter words is 34. 3 + 4 = 7! Also 4 - 3 = 1. If we remove the duplicate 3 letter words, there are 10 words. 1 - 0 = 1! Tricks?
e) There is a prime sequence too. No of unique words with 2 letters (first prime number) is 15. 1+5=6. No. of unique words with 6 letters is 9. No of words with 9 letters is 5. No of unique words with 5 letters is 16, 1 + 6 = 7. No. of unique words with 7 letters is also 16, 1 + 6 = 7!
f) Number of words with the letter 'g' (7th letter of alphabet) is 14 (a multiple of 7).
g) The 7th prime number is 17. 17th letter in alphabet is 'q'. No of words with letter 'q' is 2. No. of words having the letter 'b' (2nd letter in alphabet is)... guess what? 17!!!
Need I go on? What light do you see at the end of this ali rasheed?
Authenticity of quran is not established by mathematical tricks (atleast not what the 19ers claim), rather through other verifiable sources.
Should regards Rashad Khalifa and their followers as what they are, a bunch of hacks.
Iqbal "arrived"* in the Maldives ..... and no airplane or ship carried him here ... so he (together with his Jaariyaas) must have been riding the Indian ocean on camel back.
Igbal might have visited Maldives to pay his respects to Gayyoom. It is publicly announced that Igbal will not visit Thasmeens faction at DRP. Igbal is the Profit.
This was a good laugh. Thanks!!
Wonderful news! It's about time Maldivians threw the hadiths overboard. Who wants to know more about virgins, slaves, flatulence, camel urine, menstruation and jinni?
Minivan pl dont give importance to persons like Ibrahim Fauzee. The govt should investigate from where the IFM is getting money for their trips to different atolls.
