Dirty Politics in Pristine Maldives: The Diplomat

“Three powerful public figures in the Maldives say they are victims of a murky political witch-hunt by President Abdulla Yameen, who, ironically, wouldn’t have been in office without their support in the controversial ousting of former President Mohamed Nasheed three years ago,” writes Vishal Arora for The Diplomat.

“Gasim Ibrahim, resort tycoon and leader of the Jumhooree Party, alleges that he has received death threats and that his business interests are being hurt. Earlier this month, his party severed ties with the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives.

Mohamed Nazim, meanwhile, was until last month the defence minister, but he was sacked on charges of “treason” after police raided his home. Authorities claimed he was in possession of a 9mm pistol, bullets, and improvised explosive device. Nazim’s lawyers say he was framed, implying that the firearms were planted by police.

Earlier, in December, Ahmed Faiz Hussain was removed as chief justice of the Supreme Court on the grounds of ‘incompetence,’ although that allegation was never substantiated. ‘Today will be written down as a black day in the constitutional history of the Maldives. I state this is a black day for the constitution,’ he said after his removal.”

  1. Most credible journalist in the world has written a report on Nasheed saying that Nasheed came to power after having a free and fair election in 2008 .

But within short period of time, Nasheed has forgotten all that and become a dictator.

Nasheed had made world records on the following according to the world report.

    1. Nasheed was the first person to organize demonstration and blocking roads as a ruling party .
    2. Nasheed was the first person who had ever locked a supreme court in the world as the President of a democratically elected .
    3. Nasheed made a world record of bluffing and lies during such a short period of power.
    4. Nasheed was only the President who was trying to sold the sovereign rights to a foreign country for millions of dollars for his own pocket for the country nothing.

  2. Once again, 'hero', let me tear down your pathetic lies.

    1) People have a right to free speech. Don't jack that, lumping 'Nasheed' into it. Unlike your kind, Maldivians are not puppets for you to control.

    2) A supreme court that perverts the course of justice deserves to be reduced to rubble, then the remains set ablaze. Nasheed was kind and only locked it up.

    3) You say it's lies - but can you prove your words? The answer, of course, is no.

    4) I see you have no idea/are willfully ignorant how investments are done. Yes, your kind uses the INIA as a heroin trafficking point. And yes, your kind will be upset when a foreign company makes it impossible to flood your dirty poisons into the Maldives.

    Better india than you imperialists.
