Former president Mohamed Nasheed’s wife will publicly release a submission to the UN on his imprisonment at the US National Press Club in Washington DC on April 30.
The submission to the UN working group on arbitrary detention argues Nasheed is being held in violation of international law.
Laila Ali will be accompanied by Nasheed’s international lawyers, Amal Clooney and Jared Genser.
Nasheed was convicted of terrorism and sentenced to 13 years in jail on March 13 in a trial widely criticized by foreign governments, international rights groups and the UN for its lack of due process.
