Attorney General Azima Shukoor has had her appointment approved by parliament 38 votes in favour to 31 against.
Shukoor, who formerly acted as lawyer for former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, was initially appointed Attorney General by President Mohamed Waheed when he came to power in February 2012.
She was later reassigned to the Ministry of Family, Gender and Human Rights, however her appointment to this role was narrowly rejected by parliament.
President Waheed subsequently appointed her to her former position as Attorney General.
