Three arrested for threatening to kill expatriate waiters

Two men and a minor were arrested on Sunday night for threatening to kill expatriate waiters and damaging property at the Hotel Memorial café in Malé.

Police said the suspects, aged 25, 19, and 15, were taken into custody around 12:30am.

Both men had criminal records for assault, and the 25-year-old had been arrested four times with two cases forwarded for prosecution, police said in a statement.

The 19-year-old had been arrested three times and the 15-year-old twice, it added.

On March 22, a 25-year old Bangladeshi national, Shaheen Mia, was stabbed to death in a Malé café in the southwestern harbour.

  1. Why do Maldivians feel it necessary to hire foreigners for unskilled jobs such as waiters? I would have thought that you low IQ people would be perfect for jobs such as waiters, cooks, resort workers, room service attendants, sewage workers, scuba diving and jetski instructors, construction site workers, security guards, baggage handlers, hospital porters, taxi drivers, gardeners, parking attendants, domestic cleaners, male masseurs and of course toilet cleaners.
You need to be good looking to be a sex worker and intelligent to be a doctor, nurse, teacher or computer expert. Your chances in these fields would therefore be quite limited and its best to hire foreigners.

You should not under estimate the Maldivian Community in such a way. Of course there are morons in every country but that does not put everyone in the same category. I have been working in this country for 15 years now and I would say there are educated , intellectuals here. It is true that that some of the fields need not to have expatriates as the Maldivians themselves can do it . However, branding a whole nation as morons is unacceptable. By the way r u an Indian? I doubt it.
