Parliament approves government’s revenue raising measures

A Majlis subcommittee has recommended changes to the tourism levies to enable new revenue raising measures, though the Finance Ministry has said the revisions are not sufficient to raise the MVR3.4 billion required in the budget.

Finance Ministry imposes cost cutting measures

A circular issued by Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad instructed offices to limit employees’ overtime pay to no more than five percent of the office’s annual budget, to limit allowances to 35 percent of an employees’ salary, and not to cover phone expenses of senior officials -with the exception of cabinet ministers.
