Six men attacked in Faumulaku, one killed

Six men have been injured in a fight between two groups in Gnaviyanni Faumulaku.

According to police, at around 9.30pm last night, six men standing by a house in the Dhoondigam ward were attacked by another group.

The six men were attacked with sharp objects, and after the altercation the group fled the scene.

The six are being treated at Faumulaku Atoll Hospital, and two have been transfered to the intensive care unit.

Haveeru has since reported that one of the injured men died while receiving treatment.

The Faumulaku police are now investigating the case to arrest posible suspects.

Girl dies after boat capsizes

A 13 year-old girl died when a boat capsized in Laamu Dhanbidhoo yesterday at around 4:15 pm.

The accident occurred during bad weather conditions as the boat was shipping sand from a nearby island, according to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

The girl has been identified as Hawwa Aroosha of Fithuroanuge, Laamu Dhanbidhoo.

A 23 year-old man and three children were also on board when the accident happened.

One of the children, a 15 year-old boy, has been taken to Laamu Gan regional Hospital with serious injuries.

Children injured by lightning

Lightning strikes have injured four children in Haa Alifu Dhidhoo.

Miadhu reported that the four children were playing at an abandoned house during a heavy rain storm, which was struck by lightning. Two of the boys were below the age of 18 years while the other two were 18.

The Dhidhoo hospital reported that one child’s condition was serious while another had already been released, reports Miadhu.

The lightning strike had also caused some houses in Dhidhoo to lose electricity.
