Maldives backs UN resolution on Syria

The Maldives has backed a resolution in United Nations General Assembly expressing concern at the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Syria, according to a release from the Foreign Ministry.

“The Resolution was tabled by Saudi Arabia, and the Maldives co-sponsored and voted in favour of it,” the Ministry stated.

“The Resolution was designed to bring into context a number of issues of concern to the international community. These include the use of heavy weapons by Syrian security forces against civilian populations, the widespread and systematic violation of human rights, and concerns over the security of Syria’s biological and chemical weapons stockpiles.

“The Government of Maldives is deeply concerned by the failure of the Syrian authorities to protect its own civilian population, and strongly condemns all violence, irrespective of where it
comes from, including acts of terrorism. It calls on all parties to abide by, and implement immediately Security Council resolutions 2042 (2012) and 2043 (2012) to achieve a cessation of
the armed conflict. “

  1. Its a good move. Now please consider the human rights violations in the Maldives. Torture, brutality, arbitrary arrests, injustice, discrimination, lack of freedom of religion and conscience... When will the Malldivian government deal with its own problems?

  2. This is good move but this does not mean that the Maldivian government is required to give a religious freedom in this country.

In comparison to what is happening in syria , there is no such torture , killing and brutality in this country except those are done by thugs sponsored by extremist politician like Anni.

We have now extremist politician who are calling for these kind of violence and those extremist politician need to be brought to justice to prevail the peace in the country.

Political Extremism and Fundamentalism is a growing concern here in Maldives and these extremists need to tackled now than later.

  3. yea we see the " Syria is calling" Jidha invitations on graffiti, streets of male. lots of people die either from bullets, car accidents, homicide, or hunger. what do we care.

Maldivis backing the UN resolution could mean that baghee governt partner Adalath Islamists are going to send in suicide bombers and jidahis to Syria.
