Police have destroyed 45 grams of heroine, 35 grams of cannabis, 21 bottles of alcohol, 97 cans of beer and four 500ml bottles of alcohol following a series of confiscations in Dhoonidhoo on Kaafu Atoll.
Haveeru reported that the seized drugs related to 36 cases that had not entered the prosecution process.
Assistant Police Commissioner Mohamed Sodig said no suspects were arrested in the cases.

(0)President Mohamed Nasheed has appointed ‘Sarangu’ Adam Manik as Special Envoy of the President on Infrastructure Development, following Manik’s resignation as Mayor of Male’ City Council yesterday.
Manik told Haveeru yesterday that he had decided to resign because of “pressures from within the council”.
“Some of the council members had personal expectations which made it difficult for me to perform my duties,” he said.
A no-confidence motion against Manik put forward by council members last week was revoked, after it was withdrawn by Councillor Mohamed Falah.
(0)Dislikes(0)The government’s dengue task force will be disbanded if incidents of dengue fever remain stable over the next few days, Haveeru has reported.
Speaking on behalf of the task force, Deputy Education Minister Dr Abdulla Nazeer said in the last 24 hours new cases had only been identified in four of the eight islands most affected by the mosquito-borne disease.
The work of the task force would be handed to the Health Ministry, Dr Nazeer said.
The official dengue death toll is eight this year, including seven children. A 41 year-old man died on Thursday while a 62 year-old man admitted to hospital with dengue died yesterday.
(0)Dislikes(0)Maldives Customs Service apprehended a Sri Lankan national at the Male’ international airport on June 25 after discovering over 500 grams of drugs hidden in a false bottom of his suitcase.
Sun Online reports that the narcotics found in the suitcase of the suspect, Mohamed Arafath Mohindeen, 32, later tested positive for heroin.
The street value of the drugs seized by customs is estimated to be Rf800,000 (US$62,200).
On the same day, customs stopped a Pakistani national who had swallowed 100 packets of “high-grade” heroin.

Local daily Haveeru reports that the party submitted evidence of unauthorised use of the party logo and seal by dismissed Deputy Leader Umar Naseer.
“We have sued Umar Naseer and his cohorts,” a party official told the newspaper.

The Saudi government has donated large shipments of dates every year since 1988.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the State Trading Organisation (STO) has been tasked with clearing the fruits from customs as well as its storage, after which the dates will be distributed through the Local Government Authority (LGA).

Sun Online reports that the courses offered for this year’s scholarships were a tourism and journalism course; a three-year journalism, psychology and English degree course; a computer information degree course; a commerce degree course; a business management course; a hotel management course; a biotechnology, biochemistry and genetics degree course.
The panel tasked with evaluating the applicants consisted of Dr Mohamed Saud, Dr Mohamed Habeeb, former MP Aneesa Ahmed and Sun Online Editor Ahmed ‘Hiriga’ Zahir.
The scholarships includes tuition fees but does not cover accommodation or living costs.
Speaking at the ceremony, the former President said that he had been assured of scholarships for Maldivian students to study in Dhaka, Bangladesh during a recent visit.

A police patrol stopped the suspects, Ahmed Fazeel, 26, of H. Filmysite, and Maumoon Hussein, 25, of H. Raylightvilla, on the street and took them into custody.
According to police, both suspects have criminal records and had been arrested on numerous occasions in the past.
(0)Dislikes(0)A man from Dhaal Kudahavdhoo has been left injured in a collision with a police vehicle yesterday.
Sun Online reports that Ismail Mauroof, of Kudahuvadhoo Nooraneege, an employee at the island court, was undergoing treatment at the island hospital.
An eyewitness said that the accident occurred around 2.30pm near the island harbour when the victim on his motorcycle and the police van collided with each other.
The impact threw Ismail into the air and he crashed into a wall, the eyewitness recounted.
The accident in Kudahuvadhoo occurred less than 48 hours after the death of a 32-year old man from Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo from head injuries sustained in a collision with a police van.
Police had asked forgiveness from the victim’s family and pledged a full investigation.
