Umar Naseer claims MDP influencing internal DRP politics

Former president of the Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) and candidate for the DRP vice presidency, Umar Naseer, has claimed he is being targeted by an amendment presented to the party insisting candidates seeking elections to senior positions must have been a member for at least six months.

”It must be someone related to MDP who is trying to stop me from becoming the vice president of DRP,” Umar claimed.

He said that the MDP “was afraid that if I become the vice president of the party the government might fall”, and said the ruling party was “planning many things” to stop him from becoming the DRP’s vice president.

DRP MP Ahmed Mausoom said the amendments would only be announced on the 16 and 17 of February, adding that he did not know who had presented the amendment.

DRP MP Ali Waheed, who is also contesting for the party’s vice presidency, said he had not yet gone through the amendments and could not comment on them yet. He said he gave the eight candidates running for the post of vice president his “best wishes”.

Spokesman for MDP Ahmed Haleem said that the MDP “does not consider Umar Naseer a political figure”, and added that the party was looking forward to a time when DRP “strengthens its inner democracy and leadership to become a strong opposition party.”

  6. The sooner I see the back of this guy the better, and that's a view held by many Maldivians.
It'll be political suicide for DRP if this lame is elected as a VP.

On another note, I still can't get my head around as to why the DRP has to have 4 VP's?

  7. I'm actually starting to enjoy this sort of articles about Umar Naseer. It gets a lot of comments so why wouldn't Minivan News publish them?

I wish he wins the vice presidency. What the other candidates say makes me angry. Umar makes me laugh. Easy pick for me.

  8. We know one thing that Umar is good at, he is a "Party Killer", DRP progress is a threat to any political agrenda of Yameen. Umar with such a good resume is the best to do just that. He will destroy DRP and pave way for Yameen in to presidency in the next election.

  11. A total failure, I wonder why DRP or any other party would allow him to be their deputy Zaeem, when he is a political joke in the making. If DRP allow him to..and if he win the post of deputy Zaeem what would be more disasterous then him been a deputy to Thameen and party.I think Ben10 umar is playing a political trick here to win the hearts & minds of DRP members.I would certainly, as a memeber of DRP, advocate on THE amendment be passed by the counsil.I think the ruling party would love to see a failed guy like umar playing a leading role in the opposition.

  12. i think Umaru should host a blog where all his dreams and his vision can be written on, and when he does that he can sell his writing's to stand-up comedian or even better he can do nursery rhymes and stories with it. GO GO UMARU

  13. Umar Naseer dissolved IDP in a haste. The matter is still not settled, I hear, for the Elections Commission says IDP is not yet disbanded.

IDP is a party Umar formed. So he thought he can do as he please. For all he know, IDP is now dissolved. But DRP is not going to accomodate someone with such philosophy in its top level. Not so quickly.

Did Umar really think jumping into DRP at the twelfth hour before their elections can win him the position of VP?

For me this shows desperateness on Umar's part to become the ruler of this country. Surely there is no short cut to become the Madlvian President.
