Chika “not a bad person” says DPRS Director Rasheed, following parole announcement

The infamous Ibrahim ‘Chika’ Nafiz has been released from prison under parole.

Nafiz was sentenced to five years imprisonment after he was found guilty of possessing an illegal sword in July 2008.

Director General of the Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Service (DPRS) Mohamed Rasheed confirmed to Minivan News that Chika was released yesterday afternoon.

”He is released under the same obligations as others who are released on parole,” said Rasheed. ”There are people who have to report to DPRS weekly, and have to give urine samples weekly.”

Rasheed said he regretted that the media was reporting Chika “as a bad person.”

”He is a good person, he was very good during his time in prison,” Rasheed said. ”And nobody should be worrying about it, because it was an opportunity for him to be good. If everyone says he is a bad person he might just not be able to use this opportunity, so just give him a chance.”

”He is not a threat to the society,” he added.

Rasheed referred to the life of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) and Abu Sufiyan.

”Abu Sufiyan was a great enemy of the Muslims before he became a Muslim, but later he was one of the heroes and brought victory to the Muslims,” he said.

He added that Nafiz was released because he was eligible for the parole.

Police Sub-Inspector Ahmed Shiyam said he did not wish to comment on the issue.

  1. Yes Abu Sufiyaan was a hitman for the Qureyshi's until the Qureyshi government had to lock him up as a stunt in order to please the populace of Mecca.

However, Abu Sufiyaan, while in gaol, negotiated an agreement with the Medinans after they gained control of Mecca. The Medinans' failed gubernatorial candidate now holds considerable influence over Abu Sufiyaan's clan as his Kaaba is built in the vicinity of said clan's home turf.

Abu Sufiyaan may have agreed to implicate leading members of the Qureyshi clan as well as their head of civil peace in damaging allegations which will be heard in every oasis and every cave.

  4. Dude understand the article before commenting pls!

But i agree its an insult to even compare a criminal/druglord like Chika to Abu Sufiyan.
We have seen Chika at the heart of criminal activity time and time again.

    Big mistake. Pathetic.

  5. hahaha...now chika is compared to Abu Sufiyan....does everything has to be compared to religion n past life of people? maybe chika should take up "bakari hui heppun" ..then he will be a saint...

  6. Yeah, what does Abu Sufiyan's life have to do with this? There really is no comparison here. DPRS has failed terribly since it's because of them that a lot of convicted criminals are now still robbing and murdering people, so I think only time would tell if their claims are true.

But seriously....comparing Abu Sufiyan and Chika?

  7. Abu Sufiyan was not involved in dealing drugs or threat to the youth or to the society in such manner as Chikaa or being involved in violence. Did anyone consider what harm he has done to our society and what how he can harm the society. I hope as referred in a metaphoric manner he can assist in stopping or finding out the dealers rather than making it worse.

  10. Oh my God! this is the most alarming and sympathetic comment I have heard about a prisoner released on parole.

Chika is a lead gang member. Why would he make trouble in the prison when he organize it through other prisoners?

This man Chika was spotted at nearly every stabbing in Male.

I thought prisoners are considered for parole only when they have served half of their sentence. Has Chika served it?

There are many other prisoners behind bars who have served more than half their sentence and is still waiting to get their name on the list of those eligible for parole.

This man is Lead Gangster Yameen's boy. Hello people!

DPRS is controlled by Yameen. Those at the top levels of DPRS are on Yameen's payroll.

  11. Whats wrong in releasing chikka under parole? If this was done according to the rules and regulations there is no problem. Even chikka deserves a second chance. But not a chance that bends the rules and releases him for a political motive.

  12. What does Abu Sufiyan's story have to do with Chikaa? It seems like this Rasheed is trying so hard to prove that Parole Board made a right decision. Seems like he is solely responsible for Chikaas release.

  13. Chika is not a bad person, yes indeed he might not. but when you give examples give a sensible one. Abu Sufyan was an enemy of Islam before he became islam. Every non muslim is a threat to muslims. and when they become muslims they are part of us. please dont talk about things which you do not have good knowledge. Learn Sunnah of Prophet (pbuh).

  15. Hey wait, I know why DPRS is mistaking Chika for Abu Sufiyaan. They both had swords. Oh my god it all makes sense now

  16. Abu Sufiyan's son Muawiyah established the Umayyad Dynasty, the first to rule the Muslim world. Has Chika a son to establish a Dynasty to rule the Salafi Maldives?

  17. Actually, It is not DPRS fault that 'I' have been released. The article and the comments have actually not considered the actual people who released 'me'. THE PAROLE BOARD! When they decided to release me, my friend Mohamed Rasheed has no authority to say no.

You should look into how the PAROLE BOARD made the decision to release me! That's where the story lies.

Salaams my fellow brothers and sisters.

  18. Chika is the new Abu Sufyaan…. Cool. DPRS did not say what we have to do if we see him on the road? Maybe Chika should bring a camel for his long distance trips. He is already has Abu Sufyaan s sword so worries there.

No seriously, how can this guy be cut loose to roam around in public again? Maybe he bribed the DPRS guy. This country can never change. Full of corrupt people, starting from former president to current president, parliament to judiciary. It is in Maldivian blood.

  19. maria, again, i did not have to bribe anyone at DRPS. The decision was taken at the PAROLE BOARD as i mentioned in my earlier post.

THAT IS WHERE YOU NEED TO LOOK!

    Happy sword fighting, everyone.

  22. Rasheed,
go to school first. you are nor in a position to lead any muslim community, whereas you don't have knowledge in the philosophy of Islam.
More than Chika, I think Rasheed, you need help. try for that first. capable Sheikh's are there go for sessions befre you get dragged away from Islam by saying things that you have no idea of about Islam.
    get help.. go to school.
